Mise en Scene

Models and Costume
I believed that in order to really sell the idea that my magazine is about heavy metal, I needed a certain type of model, one that accurately fit into the style and role of a rocker and that represented the genre in the right way. The models I chose had long hair and were quite tall, which I felt was the best direction to go for metal as long hair is most commonly associated with rock and heavy metal. As for costumes, all of the models wore jeans and band t-shirts, which is conventional for a band in this particular genre. Their clothes were also all black which is instantly recognizable as a feature of rock and roll.

 Poses and Stances
For most of the pictures the band are holding their instruments in their hands, they are either playing them or just have them rest on their shoulders. This emphasizes how heavy metal is all about the music and the message. Most of the camera angles are from a low perspective which gives the band a sense of power and dominance over the audience, it also makes them seem a bit more intimidating which is important in the heavy metal genre.

Props
For the photo shoot I used two guitars and one bass guitar, this emphasizes the music and the bands talents. The band are photographed while playing the instrument to give the reader the imagery of what they would look like live. The guitars are a variety of colours which makes each band member unique and easily distinguished.

Proposal

The Music Magazine (MM) I plan to make will mainly focus on the genre of Rock and Heavy Metal. I have chosen these genres because these are the genres that I am most interested in myself and I have a good knowledge of the whole scene of heavy metal and rock. I have read a lot of articles and interviews which also focus on this genre so I am confident I can create a Magazine which emulates this particular type of magazine. I want my magazine to cover all the current news about the currently famous bands. My magazine should also cover live reviews, album reviews, artist interviews and more.

In my magazine I plan to have a wide variety of content, I hope this will make the magazine noticeable. The main feature of each issue of my magazine would most likely be interviews of various bands or solo artists that have recently caught the attention of other media outlets. I also plan to report on music festivals such as Reading and Download. My magazine will also include current news about the Rock and Heavy Metal World.

Since my MM is based around the Heavy Metal genre, I want the style to look very rebellious and reckless. However, not reckless in the sense of production but more in the style e.g. cracked and damaged text for headings. The colours will be mostly black and grey which signifies the genre that the magazine covers. Black has connotations of evil, destruction, and power, which is generally how Metal bands like to be viewed as.

My target audience will be in the age group of 15 – 28 years old. I have chosen this particular age group because people of these ages tend to be the most passionate group about music and bands; this age group can also tend to be in a band which makes them further interested in MM. My audience will mainly be aimed at middle and working class as the type of linguistics used in my magazine will not be an incredibly high class way of writing but will be written in a well educated way.
